With box-office record collection of Rang De Basanti, Aamir is already leading the game and to hit SRK at his wounds, Aamir is coming soon with Yash Chopra’s Fanaa. SRK has always been lucky mascot for Yash Raj films and vice-versa, but suddenly Yash Raj films seem to choose Aamir and Saif over SRK these days.

While Aamir seems making news headlines every new day, SRK is preparing himself for his two biggest releases this year. Firstly the magnum opus from Dharma Productions, Karan Johar’s – Kabhi Alvida Na Kahena, which also stars Big B, Preity, Arjun, Rani, Abhishek, Urmila & John. The movie is said to be based on relationship complexities. While second major release of SRK will be his home production in conjuction with Farah Khan (Main Hoon Na fame director) – Happy New Year.

Aamir & Shah Rukh KhanAs SRK is notorious about releasing his movies near the end of the end quater of the year, so that it will have higher influence upon next year’s award functions. Its upto the forthcoming 3 moives; Fanaa, KANK & HNW which will decide who is actual KING KHAN of 2006.

The ‘invisible man’ finally appears in the mirror.

Story 3

The couple [Bipasha, Makrand] living in this house is eccentric. Both constantly try to scare Arjun. When Arjun states that he doesn’t believe in ghosts and spirits, Makrand decides to call the spirits. There’s a knock on the door and the spirit refuses to go back.

Story 4

A Maharashtrian couple [Suniel, Sonali] have an unexpected visitor in the form of a weird salesman [Rajpal Yadav]. He claims to be an insurance agent, but in actuality he’s a thief who wants to rob the couple. In the melee that follows, Rajpal pulls the trigger of the pistol and bang!

Story 5
Actors: Anil Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat. Director: Jijy Philip.

A leading film-maker [Anil] wants to change lanes. After making a couple of family dramas, he is keen to make a horror film next. He decides to write the concluding portions of his script at his bungalow in Khandala. En route, he spots a lone lady [Mallika] and offers to give her a lift till Khandala. When they reach the film-maker’s bungalow, the lady tells him that she’s a ghost who had died on the Mumbai-Pune highway.

Story 6
Actors: Randeep Hooda, Zakir Hussain, Rasika Joshi. Director: Chekeravarthy.

On a rainy night, a young man [Randeep] accidentally bumps into a woman. He is petrified. The next morning, when he opens his eyes, he finds himself in the police lock-up. He is accused of murdering a man. He claims he’s innocent. The cop [Zakir] refuses to buy the story. The mother of the victim [Rasika] arrives at the police station. And skeletons tumble out of the cupboard.

Truly, the best story of the enterprise. The entire track keeps you on the edge. The lengthy conversation between Randeep and Rasika first and Zakir and Rasika subsequently is brilliant. Chekeravarthy is in full form. Randeep, Zakir and Rasika excel.

Story 7
The old lady and five children. Director: Manish Gupta.

Five kids take shelter in a dilapidated bungalow. There’s an old woman in the house. She starts narrating stories. Slowly, the kids die of shock one after the other. Without doubt, the worst part of the enterprise. Unimaginative writing, lackluster direction.

On the whole, DARNA ZAROORI HAI lacks the power to scare, frighten, terrify and petrify. In fact, it’s as ineffectual as its predecessor DARNA MANA HAI.

But its bollywood, you never know what will work and what not. Its all decided by janta janardhan at the end of the day, not actor/acteress/director or even banner. It will succumb at boxoffice and would prove to be yet another flop for Yash Chopra after Neal n Nikki.

He surprises us with,

Fanaa comes to number 16 which is not a good number and is represented in Tarot as a tower burnt by lightning – a very negative card.

Chaiya Chaiya in 2006

Posted on 18. Apr, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in Exclusives, Scoops

The song has nothing to do with the film’s theme, except that it caught Spike Lee’s attention when the musical Bombay Dreams with A R Rahman’s music was on Broadway over a year ago. Chaiyya Chaiyya was one of its highlights. The song sequence also received applause in the London version where, unlike on Broadway, the show was a big hit.

There are two versions of the song in Inside Man, which opened at the number one position in North America three weeks ago, and has grossed a strong $115 million worldwide so far. The first time, we hear the original recording, with a bit of enhanced music. The second time around, a hip-hop song is laid atop the Sukhvinder Singh number.

Although Bollywood songs are occasionally featured in Western films including Moulin Rouge, this is perhaps the first time a Bollywood song is heard over six minutes in a Hollywood film. That too in a film far bigger than Moulin Rouge. While that film grossed about $140 million worldwide, Inside Man could end its run with more than $160 million.

Audiences and critics were surprised and, in some cases, startled by the inclusion of the song.

“The opening and closing musical tracks of Spike Lee’s Inside Man immediately attracted the attention of film critics and moviegoers alike because Lee chose an unexpected piece of Bollywood music as a curtain-raiser for his urban thriller,” wrote Hollywood Reporter. The influential trade publication quoted the film’s composer Terence Blanchard, saying that the song was in perfect keeping with Lee’s “distinct musical choices.”

Some critics had no idea what the song was about. While Blanchard says Lee chose the number to give “an energetic edge” to the bank heist thriller, a handful of critics begged to differ. The music “sounds like some sort of African or possibly middle-eastern folk music with a techno/funk edge,” wrote The Northern Light. “It’s a strange choice for a film about a New York
bank robbery.”

The inclusion of the song could not have come as a bigger surprise to Rahman. When a reporter told him that 2006 could be his best year — with half a dozen of his songs in the $20 million plus The Lord of the Rings now being staged in Toronto, and Rang De Basanti turned into a big hit — Rahman merely said: “No one can plan anything like this. All this means that while I have to work even harder, it is also a reminder that one must remain humble even more than ever.”
