Fanaa – Under Moviescope

Posted on 31. May, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Exclusives, Reviews

Under moviescope, each movie is dissected into 4 major portions with different weightage whose cumulative will be 5.0 Stars;

1. Story & Screenplay – 2.0 (SOUL)
2. Music & Choreography – 1.0 (SOUND)
3. Direction & Cinematorgraphy – 1.0 (VISION)
4. Other atrributes – 1.0

#1. Story & Screenplay: It’s the backbone of almost every movie. Yes for even Zero logic David Dhawan movie there needs to be soem kind of stroy and spellbounding Screenpaly. But , in Fanaa, you hardly find one. It doesn’t have any DEFINITE story, it moves to and fro and jumps from one end to other in a blink eye. But once it reaches to new zondra, it stagnates.

For the first 45 minutes it was like volley of sayeris, story going nowhere like regular romance story. Then as soon as Kajol gains her sight baaam…., TERRORISM angle erupts and dies within next 15-20 minutes. Suddenly FATHER-SON angle starts from nowhere, and dear god help me. It tests your patience for another ONE LONG hour. Even realization of Aamir as Rehaan doesn’t provide enough impact on further story. Its climax was the mediocre part, tried to emulate MOTHER INDIA, but lacking that energy and background.

So out of 2.0 points. It doesn’t deserve anything more than 0.5.

#2. Music & Choreography: Apart from Chand Sifarsh, none of the songs are par YASH RAJ FILMS. Even choreograhpy don’t grab attention much. All regular, nothing that viewers can hum.. after the show. Musically, complete let down.

So out of 1.0 point. It doesn’t deserver aything more than 0.25.

#Direction & Cinematography. Well in this section, the movie definitely shines. The cinematography is pretty appreciable and matches YASH RAJ standard like in Veer Zaara, DDLJ. While direction ranges from above average to at times excellent.

So out of 1.0 it scores compeltely 1.0

Those are three major standards [Total: 1.75 out of 4.0 ] for any movie (Specially YASH RAJ Flims).

#Remaining (1.0 point) depends upon the type of movie and weightage differs based on its genre:

ACTING: Good
EDITING: Poor
BACKGROUND-SOUND: Ok
ACTION & SPECIAL EFFECTS: Good

ACTING was put into fourth category, due to the fact that both of the major actors have shown their supreme talent before in most of their movies. So, everyone knew their par. So there was no room for any kind of rookie mistake from such qualified actors.

So on left 1.0 point it makes out not more than 0.75.

So its TOTAL star rating could not be more than 2.5 out of 5.

What are your thoughts ?

It can well be termed as a casting coup of the decade. With the likes of Mahesh Bhatt, Shashi Kapoor, Viveik Oberoi, Urmila Matondkar and Nafisa Ali joining hands together, it makes for a highly exciting venture! But no, don’t run your imaginations wild by expecting all of them to be associated with each other for a movie. Instead it is for a noble cause, as they participate in a ‘Say No To Tobacco’ initiative launched by India’s premier multiplex chain – PVR Cinemas.

As everyone is aware, 31st May is considered as a WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY and it is for this day that the multiplex chain, celebrities and the Cancer Patients Aid Association have collaborated with each other to spread a buzz about the ill-effects caused by Tobacco/smoking in the society.

Celebrity messages from Shashi Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Nafisa Ali, Vivek Oberoi and Mahesh Bhatt will be flashed across at each of their screens in Delhi and NCR till 31st May’06.

Kabul Express *Xclusive Teaser*

One more movie from Yash Raj films that will be hitting screen this september is Kabul Express directed by eminent filmmaker Kabir Khan, who is famous for his documentaries on the Kargil war. Khan, is a renowned documentary filmmaker, has earlier shot a record number of documentaries in Afghanistan.

The anti-war film tells the story of a 48-hour car drive through the war-torn country that has witnessed tumult since the fall of the Taliban in 2001 when the fundamentalist hardliners were ousted by a US-led invasion. The movie casts John Abraham and Arshad Warsi in lead roles along with foriegn actors.
Arshad Warsi plays a cinematographer and John Abraham, a TV director in the thriller set in post 9/11 Afghanistan. Both will be sent to cover the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Teaser

The film depicts a journey of five people travelling from Kabul to the outskirts of Pakistan. In Afghanistan, everything is quite dangerous and the army comes to drop journalists in helicopters and leaves. What happens to them after that and how they make their way across to Pakistan, is what “Kabul Express” is about.

“Kabul Express” is a film, with heaps of action and reality. People will come to know what actually happened during the war through the film.

Very few Indian film stars have ventured to Afghanistan in the last four years for shows. This is the first time after the Taliban’s ouster that a Bollywood producer has dared to shoot a film on Afghanistan in the country. The undeniable love for Bollywood in Afghanistan is evident as a large crowd of curious Afghans, mostly young, follow the “Kabul Express” unit wherever it goes for shooting.

The movie further strenthens the quote;

War does not determine who is right, only who is left

Kajol & Aamir Talk Fanaa ~Watch Online~

Posted on 26. May, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in Broadband, Chit Chat

Kajol & Aamir talks about Fanaa Interestingly enough, the conversation wasn’t just centered around Fanaa. There’s more than enough fodder in this one to feed gossip mongers for a long, long time. They start of the conversation with first impressions of each other. Aamir didn’t even hesitate for a fraction of a second to say that at their first meeting, he thought that Kajol was brash!

Kajol countered that by saying that she didn’t even have an impression of him. The only impression that she would have liked to make at that time was that of her fingernails on his neck! Under all that banter, one can easily sense the strong camaraderie between the two! It does take a great comfort level to tell someone that you didn’t like them at the first meeting, after all!

Click here to Watch Video of this chat

The two went on to discuss a whole lot of topics, under the sun. They chatted on everything from what makes them choose a film, to what they like and dislike about each other. In fact, this was the first time that Aamir even spoke about his broken marriage to Reena. He said that he still cherished the time he had spent with her. With time, he has learned not to be judgmental of others. For Kajol, her marriage helped her find and accept the grey areas in life.

The entire conversation ended on a light note, with them talking about each others positive and negative points. A rare interview, it was indeed refreshing to see that they didn’t just give diplomatic answers heard a zillion times, before. And now let’s hope that this off-screen chemistry translates just as perfectly onscreen, as well.

Following is snippet of the chat transcript.

Aamir: I know it’s a little late in the day but its Kajal or Kajol??

Kajol:Hmmm…..it’s Kajol

A:Kajol, I have been calling you Kajal throughout the (making of) film.

K:Well…..

A:You haven’t corrected me.

K:I didn’t feel like correcting you at that point of time (laughs).

A:You know interestingly, when I heard the script for the first time, I simply loved the script and I said there is only one person I can see in the role of Zooni and that is Kajal…. Kajol. (Kajol laughs….) and there is only one problem if she is in the film I might not be in it.

K:(Laughs)…I don’t know whether to slap you or call and say thank you for the compliment.

A:And then I said if she even hears that I am in the film, she will say no!

K:You have such a high opinion of me!

A:I never thought actually we will get down to working together.

K:Yeah…. I know what you mean…. It seemed kind of impossible then….

A:Because we are supposed to have completely different styles of acting or working.

K:I have to share something with you Aamir… I have to tell you a little trade secret I don’t know whether you know this as yet or not…. but your FIRST (her emphasis) take is the best shot ever!

A:It is??

K:Yes it is… Kunal and me have already discussed this several times…. that your first take is usually your best…

A:Well I am glad to hear that….Well but I don’t go for that many takes. What is your experience? I mean people tell stories that I take 50 takes and all that… Is that what you think?? (looks at her meaningfully…)

K:Well (points towards the camera) we are on TV now… (laughs)…. No, really, jokes apart, but I think for sure that you have chilled out. I think you are much more confident now, at least that’s what I look at it as… (Aamir says… “right… more relaxed…) yeah you are more cooler… much cooler.

A:What was your first impression of me, then…. back then?

K:I didn’t have an impression, really…. The only impression that I wanted to make was my finger marks on your neck at that point of time… but beyond that I thought that… I still do think that you are completely 300 per cent into your job… and a little too into your job… But that’s okay… I like you besides that… despite all this… you are not such a bad guy… Now, what was your impression?

A:Well… My impression of you was… quite pathetic to begin with… (Kajol interrupts… “sounds familiar…) yeah… I kind of felt that you were really brash and difficult to deal with.

K:(interrupts) You can say brat…it’s okay…

A:Brash… and then… (a long pause) Actually after doing Fanaa it hasn’t change… No it HAS… it was a real pleasure to work with you I have to say. And I really enjoyed it… It’s very few times (that) I can say that to an actor… You know that I had such a good time working with you…

K:Thank you! Ditto and vice versa… I really thought I will kill you within the first schedule but, surprisingly, we both survived… na…

A:I think we both have grown older and are more matured…

K:Yeah, we have matured…

A:Tell me one thing… I wanted to ask you…. We have not had this conversation actually… How do you select a film, to begin with…?

K:First and foremost, it HAS to be a good script otherwise I won’t do it… no matter what.

A:And then, once you select how do you approach the role or your character how do you go about working on it…???

K:Wait wait….. this is a question I think I wanted to ask you this… I am more instinctive and you are more scientific about it…. Logically thinking… I am sure by now you must have all the steps worked out so please tell me exactly how that happens…

A:I’ll tell you but first you tell me… I asked you na?

K:I am telling you… I am instinctive. I do what I like… I go by gut (feeling) if I like it…. if I really really like it, if I think it will work… my gut says yes go for it. I go for it…

A:But once you have said yes to the film and then there is, may be four to six months before we can start shooting it… do you think about the character…

K:No……… I don’t sit down and think about it…. I do think sometimes. I think about oh you know when we do this particular scene… exactly what will I do… I should keep my body language like this…. once in a while, but I am not a conscious planner at all…I go with the flow…

A:I like to get into the head of the character and that’s what I try to (do) and when I get that then everything else flows for me…. (laughs) Sometimes, I don’t get the head right till the end of the shooting… I am still searching for the head.

K:How do you choose a film???

A:There are three things that are really important for me… the script, the director and producer… only then I do a film. I mean only then I say yes to a film…

K:No wonder…. you have only done one film in FIVE years…(laughs)… also these rumours say that you sit on editing, get involved in post-production… really get, like, into it completely……. Do you actually do that???

A:At times… if I am invited by the director or the producer I do…

K:So… have you sat on Fanaa and cut my role?? …

A:Well NO… actually no…

K:(Laughs)…Like everyone has been claiming you have cut my role or as it is…

A:Kahan yaar…but Kunal and Adi called me to see the film and they wanted my response. So I saw the film and then sat with them for about four to five days because when I saw the film there was not much that I had to comment… there were a few minor things, but I gave my input whatever I felt… what they liked they took, what they didn’t like they didn’t…

K:I want to ask you something generally… When Kunal told me that Aamir is doing the film…I thought to myself that when I meet Aamir, HE will be of a certain way… be a certain kind of person… and you were … I have to say that you came in with no expectations… How did you do that??

When I saw you and when we worked and when we met and things like that… the script reading and all that… you were very warm. I mean I would like to say you are very open… didn’t you feel that you needed to… didn’t you feel that, ‘Oh my God, I hated her when I saw her… when I was working with her, she is not really the nicest person… when I meet her now, what is it going to be like…’

A:I was apprehensive about that… Besides we had not met for years… and…

K:I know I was… I was apprehensive… I was thinking, ‘OH MY GOD…how is he going to be like… what’s the whole deal…’ How will we deal together??’ I mean I did think about it…

A:Adi and Kunal were convinced that there will be fireworks and the film will stop mid way and all…. but yeah I was apprehensive… to be totally honest… I have always respected you as an actor….

I have always like your work tremendously…So on a certain level I was really looking forward to do this film with you and I was just hoping that it went well… So I was a ….creatively I was so sure that you were so right for the role…

Fanaa (2006) – It doesn’t impress !

Posted on 26. May, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Reviews

Once again, Kunal Kohli makes unsuccessful critics movie after Mujhse Dosti Karoge. It has best of all, but turns out to be the worst of all. Faana takes best of all popular movies like DDLJ, Raja Hindustani, a tad bit of Mission Kashmir/Fiza, Aa Gale Lag Ja (old) and finally Mother India.

Cast: Aamir Khan, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor, Tabu, Shiney Ahuja (Guest), Lara Dutta (Guest)

Synopsis

The movie begins as normal boy loves girl note. Rehan – Aamir Khan is a tour guide, Zooni – Kajol is a blind girl who have come to tour Delhi along with her friends. (combi of DDLJ & Raja Hindustani). Inspite of Kajol’s friends warning, he starts liking Rehan, while Rehan inturn just wants to fullfill his desires. It seems like that in the movie.

So, after first 45 minutes of frequent volley of romantic sayeris(and nothing else, story doesn’t move forward), Rehan proposes Zooni to marry him. Strangely, Zooni hadn’t insisted him for that, even after they had intimate relationship a night before. So for marriage Zooni calls her family while Rehan advice Zooni for eye-checkup. Amazingly, upon eye treatment Zooni’s sight returns(70s movies style) but she gets bad news that there had been bomb blast in the city which killed Rehan. She get called up for identification of dead bodies. After verfying dead bodies belongings, Zooni becomes assured Rehman had become victim of that blast.

Now Story takes complete U-turn, Rehman is shown in black overcoat in urban building talking on mobile. He is an IFK terrorist and was also responsible for the Delhi blast. Intellegence department tries to track him down and get hold of some TRIGGER (used in nuclear bomb could blast 50 lakh people). Upon encounter with Aamir with army, Aamir gets wounded and lands up in some mountaineous cottage. (FIZA/Mission Kashmir).

(What was director thinking? Just 10 minutes ago movie as movie like snail speed. Now suddenly everything changed within last 10 minutes.., ROMANTIC STORY changes into TERRORIST STORY)

Coincidently, the cottage is owned by Zooni, his father and Zooni’s 7 year old son Rehan. Yes, completely cheezy. For next 30 minutes, Aamir tries to hide his identity and Zooni (Kajol) too can’t recognize him (STRANGE … :angle: ). But at times she would become suspicious, whenever he comes near to her. Now starts CHILD & FATHER angle (Aa Gale Lag Ja ). Finally, Aamir confronts that he WAS Rehman and he is in an Indian Army (lie), was in mission when he fell in love with Zooni. Now for next 15 – 20 minutes whole family saaga kinda sutff continues, father-son realtionship. Then suddenly, he realizes he need to communicate with his terrorist group upon discussion with Zooni’s family friend, Colnel (who has his own radio transmitter).

But, Zooni’s father finds out the truth that Aamir is terrorist when he sees that TRIGGER in his clothes (as described on the TV News). So father tries to kill his own son-in-law and in scuffle father accidently gets killed due to falling from the cliff. Again, coincidently (CHEEZY), Kajol sees her own fathers dead body soaked in the snow. Her suspicion turns into reality, when Aamir lies about her father’s whereabouts.

She along with her son, tries to run away from Aamir but Aamir follows her and finally manges to reach their hiding place. He asks fro the trigger, while Kajol requests him to surrender to the Indian Army (which she had already contacted using Colonel’s radio transmitter).

Finally, there was no option left for her, so Zooni shoots Aamir (MOTHER INDIA) !

The End.
