Dhoom II

They are back in action.
Yea, in literal sense! The action just gets bigger and better. More gadgets and gizmos. Slicker automobiles. And Hrithik roller-skating with remarkable élan, throughout.

While a bikini clad Bipasha sizzles onscreen, Aishwarya doesn’t exactly get in the bikini mode (as was largely speculated) but her two piece costume is as good as one.

Trailer/Promo/Teaser

Even though Hrithik has palyed the role of theif, the actual mind behind this whole conspiracy is Aishwarya. This time she has don completely dark character, after playing grey in Khakee. On the long list of sequels made this year, Dhoom II is one of the highly anticipated one.

Synopsis

This story is about Dev Saran and Rhea Saran who have been married for some years and have a cute child, Arjun Saran and also with them is Kamaljit Saran, Dev’s mother. Dev is a football coach and Rhea is a fashion magazine editor. Dev is a little complicated, if that is the right word, he is either not happy about his failure or unhappy about his wife’s success, no one knows. Rhea on the other hand is a very ambitious, career minded woman and who draws more pay than her husband. Kamaljit, though she is Dev’s mother, she doesn’t hesitate to tell him when he is wrong and support the daughter in law when she is right, coz she believes that she is a woman first and then a mother.

This story is about Rishi Talwar and Maya Talwar who are a married couple and with them is Samarjit Singh Talwar aka Sam, Rishi’s father. Rishi owns a PR firm and Rhea is a teacher whereas Sam is a skirt-chaser Rishi is a very happening kinda guy who loves parties and being out there. Maya on the other hand prefers staying at home, cleaning her house and loves her teaching job and loves those kids since she can’t have any of her own. Sam is cool dude even for his age. He basically hits on anything that moves. He is a casanova kinda man who remembers his gals by the day and not their name.

The story starts of with a soccer match on one side and a guy getting up late on his own wedding day and actually forgets that he is to be married on that day. On this same day Rhea gets a new job that demands too much of her time. And it is also Dev and Rhea’s wedding anniversary.

Rhea goes off to pick her son and Dev heads off to pick his mum from a wedding ceremony, the marriage of Rishi and Maya. This is when Dev and Maya cross paths for the very first time. Maya is standing outside of her wedding venue and is in two minds and this is when she meets Dev and they start talking. Dev convinces her to go in and marry and as she leaves, she says, ‘goodbye’ and Dev tells her, never to say goodbye coz it kills the hope of meeting again.

Next, Dev and Maya meet again due to some misunderstanding. There is news of some kidnapper in town, Black Beast, and Dev suspects Maya (he doesnt realize that she is Maya) is Black Beast when he sees her dragging his son away. This incident leeds to meeting of Rishi and Rhea. And all four become friends.

Rishi invites Rhea to his dad’s party. Rhea takes her whole family and this is where the Rock N Roll Soniye song comes in. Sam tries to hit on Kamaljit and stuff like that.

One day, Maya and Dev realized that their marriage isn’t working and they can help each other to improve and make their marriage work. Maya teaches Dev how to behave and talk to women and Dev teaches Maya how to seduce her husband and what she should concentrate on doing apart from being a cleanliness freak.

Maya and Dev plan something special for their respective wedding anniversaries which happens to fall on the same day. Then comes the Mitwa song. Everything goes as planned and is going smooth and suddenly they are back to square one. They end up fighting with their respective spouses.

The tension between the couples surfaces gradually, but reaches the crescendo 20 minutes before intermission. The spat between SRK and Preity on one hand [Preity: “I wear the pants in this house], followed by the heated argument between Abhishek and Rani [Abhishek: “You can't even bear a child] is amongst the most remarkable portions in the film. These sequences hit you like a ton of bricks!

Dev and Maya happen to meet the same night and they talk their hearts content. Maya asks questions that Dev cannot answer. Both are not talking to their spouses. This is when Sam and Kamaljit step in. They think of a plan to introduce Rhea and Rishi, so that when they become friends, they can advice each other and make their marriages work. Plans goes as expected and quite successful as well. This is the same time when Maya and Dev get involved.

Then comes Where’s the Party Tonight. Sam and Kamaljit are already friends and so he invites her to his house for dinner as it is her birthday. Cut to next scene, Sam is in hospital and he tells Maya to leave Rishi as he knows that she doesn’t love him. And both Maya and Dev decide to tell their respective spouses about their affair, their involvement. Final song, title song.

So what happens next?
Do Rhea and Rishi leave or stick with their unfaithful spouses?
Does Dev marry Maya?
Does Rishi marry Rhea?

Critique

KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is not a date film and the writers [Karan Johar, Shibani Bathija] spell it out at the very outset. The screenplay balances the two extremes — light moments and dollops of emotions — with amazing ease. The relationship between the couples or even those between the parent and child [the Bachchans] is delicately handled. If there are moments that move you to tears, there are ample moments that bring a smile to your face as well. Another noteworthy aspect is its forthright dialogues [Niranjan Iyengar]. The lines sound straight of life and there also exist a host of interesting observations. Yes, the film is talky, but in a smart way. You never feel that the characters are talking to hear their own words or to fill up screen time.

Karan’s take on relationships is fresh, bold and innovative. It takes you by surprise. It shocks you as well. And it’s also trend-setting. Just don’t expect KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA to be a typical candyfloss entertainer. Or an archetypal fare that Bollywood is known for. In those 3.06 hours/22 reels, Karan packs in some solid stuff. And the conclusion to the story is bound to hit the orthodox elements hard. A film like KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA is sure to have its share of advocates and adversaries no doubt, but it’s a film that has the courage to say what it believes in.

Its raining in Bollywood – Top 10 rain songs from indian cinema (Part II)

Posted on 07. Aug, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in Exclusives

Haeey haaey yeh majboori (Roti Kapda Aur Makaan)

Haye Haye - Roti Kapada Aur MakanThe idea of a rain song as a siren call arguably reached its peak with Zeenat Aman’s sexy moves. Actor-director Manoj Kumar played the sorely tempted boyfriend who can’t afford to join an inviting Zeenat in the rain, as he has to appear for a much-needed job interview. Lyricist Verma Malik aptly put it as “Ambar pe hai racha swayamvar phir bhi tu ghabraye” and the restless camera movements effectively captured the hapless hero’s predicament.

Zeenat’s windblown sari effect was also witnessed in her Ajnabee song (Bheeegi bheegi raaton mein) and has been a cinematic staple right down to Sushmita Sen crooning Laga laga laga re in Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya.

Rimjhim gire sawan sulag sulag jaaye man (Manzil)

ManzilWhile the Kishore Kumar version of this RD Burman nugget is filmed at a sangeet mehfil, Lata’s version is fittingly shot on various rain-lashed Mumbai locales. Drawing on the water-and-fire parallel, the track follows a young couple in love as they splash their way through puddles and take in the rains without a care, just delighting in each other’s company.

Unlike Amitabh’s super hit Aaj rapat jaaey toh from Namak Halal, the mood here is much gentler. Amitabh (in a suit, would you believe?) and Moushmi made an odd but oddly endearing couple — she reaches his height only while walking down the Marine Drive parapet.

Megha re megha, tera man tarsa re (Lamhe)

Megha re megha LamheYash Chopra’s filming of this song captured the traditional Indian greeting of the monsoons — there was the usual sawan ke jhoole on which Sridevi and her friends swung as they announced the arrival of the rains Lata’s voice in the Shiv Hari song was counterbalanced by Ila Arun’s rustic crooning to achieve a heady mix.

The sheer joy of life expressed in this composition and in Sridevi’s dancing drew the entranced hero (Anil Kapoor) from his haveli to catch a glimpse of the maidens dancing in the rain. Like Raj Kapoor and Gulzar, Yash Chopra has an obvious love for rain songs. The filmmaker has used them repeatedly, and effectively, in Chandni (Lagi aaj sawan ki phir who jhadi hai), Yeh Dillagi (Dekho zara delho barkha ki jhadi), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (Mere khwabon mein jo aaye) and Dil To Pagal Hai (Ghode jaisi chaal).

Rimjhim rimjhim (1942 A Love Story)

Rimjhim rimjhim - 1942 A Love StoryJust as a young and freshly scrubbed Manisha Koirala collected the raindrops in her sari pallu and then splashed Anil Kapoor with them in this number, the audience too felt sprayed by the refreshing appeal of the song.

1942’s music was the musical highpoint of its era. Javed Akhtar’s rich lyrics were much appreciated. And, of course, this was R D Burman’s swan song. Fittingly, the maestro who had composed many an outstanding rain song from his first film, Chhote Nawab (Ghar aaja ghir aye badra saawariya) onwards, had a memorable monsoon melody in his last offering too.

Bhaage re man kahin (Chameli)

ChameliThe under-utilised Sandesh Shandilya spins a delicate melody that reflects the state of mind of a young Mumbai prostitute (Kareena Kapoor). The city’s torrential downpour brings unexpected joy to the streetwalker’s life and she takes full advantage of it, splashing around in her famous red-and-blue sari. As she drops her pallu and douses herself in water, the song captures her feeling of being transported. She loses herself to the experience (as signified by Irshad Kalim’s lyrics) and mocks her new acquaintance (Rahul Bose) who prefers to stay dry.

The song ends with an unforgettable image of Kareena prancing joyously towards an unknown future — letting us know that even the most unfortunate of God’s creatures take time off from their miseries to sing and dance in the rain.

I have hired assasins to kill Amitabh – Shah Rukh Khan

Posted on 05. Aug, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in Exclusives, Scoops

SRKSometimes if you start believing in a lie for a long time , it actually becomes reality to you and sometimes even to the whole world. The rift between two biggest superstars of the industry were initially thought as a media war, but later as facts started coming up day by day, it was turning into reality. To such a extent that, when a TV anchor asked Shah Rukh Khan about his equation with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, he jokefully brushed off the topic by saying …

I have hired a team of elite assassins, adapt in the art of killing, to murder Amitabh Bachchan.

But how UNtrue can this joke be…?
Shah Rukh may be laughing everything off, but their definitely seems to be something not right, between Bollywood’s two biggest stars
