Lost in Love: Raj Kapoor and Nargis

Ruddy-cheeked and light-eyed, Raj Kapoor was unmistakably Destiny’s blue-eyed boy. As a romantic actor, his onscreen romance with Nargis, fuelled by larger-than-life stories of their off-screen relationship, was a glorious chapter in the cinematic history of Hindi cinema. Raj Kapoor first showed his scene-stealing abilities in Mehboob Khan’s Andaz (1949), where he costarred with Nargis and Dilip Kumar. Kapoor played Nargis’s flamboyant but suspicious husband with aplomb. Flamboyance was his forte in other early successes like Dastaan and Sargam as well. Although, he was paired with Nargis from his first produced-directed and acted movie Aag(1947).

SRK on his ladies – I will love them hamesha

SRK on his ladies – I will love them hamesha

One thing I’ll say about all my leading ladies is that, I love them unconditionally

Shah Rukh Khan gushes. In a flash, the Shah of showbiz opens up the floodgates. In a marvelously garrulous mood at Mannat, his thoughts tumble out faster than the pouring rain outside.

His melting-chocolate eyes gleam as memories unspool and he narrates amusing anecdotes. “80 per cent of what I’m today is because of my heroines. The love they’ve given me, the help they’ve given me and the feeling of goodness they’ve generated while working with me is responsible for making me what I am.? The irrepressible SRK fires away:

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri DixitMadhuri Dixit is the most solid man I’ve met in the industry.Yeah, you heard right. She’s truly like a man. She’s the most solid thinker, solid emotionally, solid believer. And someone who loves her parents immensely. And of course, her talent is unquestionable. She’s the complete Indian film heroine.

She’d always help me with my dancing. I’d always dance a step behind her so I could follow her. Like in Koyla I would tell her just be half a step ahead of me, so it’ll be easy for me. And she’d oblige. I hope she comes back. I miss her. I miss seeing her more than I miss working with her. Juhi and Madhuri are my all time favourites though Juhi is much closer to me personally.

To me, Juhi and Madhuri are the epitome of acting, of love and friendship. They are closest to my heart. And they are two actors from whom I’ve learnt the most. These are the only two I feel I’m not as good as.

Even today if someone asks me which heroine would you like to work with, I’d say Madhuri, Juhi and Kajol. And I know all three of them don’t work so much. The only time I participate in casting is when these three are involved. Which is not often. But even today if someone tells me we’re looking for a college girl or for Lolita, I’ll say Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol. If they’re looking for an old woman, I’ll say Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol. When I’m 50 and they ask me who’ll play my daughter, I’ll say Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol.

These three girls are my first loves. It’s just that your first love is your first love. After all, I’ve done some great work with the three of them. I hear Madhuri is coming back. It’ll be great. See, I do three films in a year. And I’d love to do them with the three of them.

Sanju along with Rajkumar Hirani had gone to visit the cancer affected patients at the Tata Memorial hospital on the occasion of Rose day. The children were quite happy to see their own Munnabhai in their midst who brought a smile on their face. However, because of his presence a stir was created and hence he could not stay for long.

Prior to this Dutt has been keeping a low profile since the last two months ever since the TADA court started pronouncing and postponing its verdict in the ’93 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

All we can say is Lage Raho Munna Bhai..

Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) Movie Review – Sweet Black Comedy

Posted on 22. Sep, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Reviews

Trailer/Promo/Teaser

Cast: Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Praveen Dabas, Ranvir Shorey, Tara Sharma
Rating:

Films that follow the Hrishikesh Mukherjee/Basu Chatterjee cinema are as good as extinct. But once in a while comes a film that strikes a chord due to its simplistic and unadulterated entertainment. The emphasis is not on paraphernalia like special effects or opulent sets as much as on content.
Fortunately, KHOSLA KA GHOSLA is one such film.

Subtly done, the essence of Delhi’s complex colours is evident in every scene, inadvertently lending credibility to the events. Be it the laughter club sessions in a local district park or Khosla’s Karol Bagh style neighbourhood. The realism in the situation and humour of Khosla easily strikes a chord. One hears of plot broker rackets all the time. But the tit-for-tat solution the makers employ is hardly plausible even if commendable. That’s where the cast gets mention. The actors successfully bring out the amazing contrasts and characteristics between them.

Synopsis

You see Kamal Kishore Khosla (Anupam Kher), a retired service class man in Delhi, having nightmares about his family — a niggling, dense wife, a wannabe tomboyish teen daughter, a workaholic elder son and an idle-minded younger son.

Clearly his bad dreams broadly hint how hopeless he deems them. But then, he himself can be quite crabby and controlling. Between you and me though, he is the typical uncle-next-door. And insecurities aside, his household is just like any other.

Khosla relies immensely on his sensible albeit self-centred computer engineer son, Chironjilal aka Cherry (Parvin Dabbas) to architect a dream house on his newly purchased plot. Cherry, meanwhile, reserves indifference towards his father’s aspirations and theatre actress friend, Megha’s (Tara Sharma, a charming screen presence but a screeching dialogue delivery) affectionate demonstrations to chase the American dream.

While Cherry applies for a US visa and decides to go for a name change, Khosla gets busy asking Bunty (Ranvir Shorey), cocky, good-for-nothing high school dropout, to get name plates designed for their new residence in South Delhi’s posh locality.

Khosla’s enthusiasm is short-lived when he realises he’s been duped by the broker and his land is unfairly occupied by a fraudulent businessman, Kishan Khurana (Boman Irani plays the loud bully with his characteristic stares, sneers and snorts).

When polite requests and arm-twisting attempts fail to do the trick, Cherry, aided by visa agent Asif Iqbal (Vinay Pathak) — a former Khurana accomplice — hatches a clever scheme to beat Khurana at his own game. At this point, the film truly begins.

Shameen Jivraj, the Kenyan-born Indian creator of the dolls that are being sold under the brand name of ‘Bollywood Legends’ is confident her pet project will be a grand success. “These dolls are going to be bought by kids to play with, teenagers to aspire to, and adults as collector items, said Jivraj. Jivraj came up with the idea to make dolls based on Bollywood stars about four years ago.

“I became intrigued by Bollywood a little while ago and was drawn into the movies with their mix of fun, fashion, music and dance,

Jivraj has given manufacture and distribution rights to Spin Master Toys UK who initially plan to sell about 25,000 of the Bollywood dolls. But the company hopes that sales will eventually cross the one lakh mark.

On a rainy night in Dr. Rihan, workaholic, meets Kria, in his hospital…not realizing his life is about to change forever. She’s quite the opposite of him – loud, mad, pathologically friendly, a musical genius…an extremely popular Singer and also a woman who doesn’t ever take “no for an answer.

Kria forces the introvert doctor to come out with her and her equally mad family! As much as he resists, he finds himself being swept by this tidal wave of friendship and fun. Kria has a son of 12 years, who’s smarter then men twice his age; she has a mother who’s a hard nut to crack, from whose lips a smile hardly ever escapes, who is like a strict schoolmistress; and there isn’t just one of those – there are two! The mother has a twin sister, who’s giggly, a lover of good wine, and lots of fun, who likes to make faces behind her stern twin sister’s back! This motley crew suddenly invades the doctor’s sad life and changes it around a hundred and eighty degrees

Kria & Suraj are deeply in love and then comes a time when they face a painful situation where Suraj is faced with the biggest crisis in his life as is Kria. It’s the sort of crisis that makes people’s real personalities come out, questioning the very cores of their being. What will he do? Will she succeed in what she wants? Will love triumph?

These are the questions that get answered in the latter part of the story. The intense drama that deals with these difficult situations forms the crux of the climax which leads to a deeply emotional and heart-renching end. Whatever the final outcome, however, love finds a way…it always does.
