Movie Review: I Hate Luv Storys (2010)

Fresh Love stories in Bollywood has always been widely accepted, be it Kumar Gaurav’s Love Story or Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai, most of them garnered mullah as well as made the actors overnight stars. Well, will IHLS help to raise the sinking career of both Imran (Kidnap, Luck) and Sonam (Saawariya, Delhi 6) ?
Only time can tell whether this would be hat trick flop for both of them or not ?

Rating:

As a reviewer all I can say is IHLS is fun frolic chick flick for young hearts, which relies heavily upon all past Bollywood love story spoofs with wafer-thin storyline. You will be hugely disappointed if you expect romance like ‘A Walk to Remember’, ‘Sweet November’ , ‘Notebook’or even Bollywood’s classic ‘Devdas’.

I Hate Luv Storys is a simple fairy tale love story between J (Imran) & Simran (Sonam) set in modern age.
J is happy-go-lucky guy who hates mushy love stories, while he works under a director who makes romantic movies. Simran, an art director is in love with Raj, an investment banker. She craves for love stories, corny lines and cheesy plots.

J meets Simran, they hate each other.
Simran falls in love with J after sometime, while J doesn’t and refuses her proposal.
Later, J realizes he is also in love with Simran. J proposes, but Simran refuses.
At the end, Aal iszz well between J and Simran.

The story is very much predictable without any twists and turns. Writer seems to be hugely inspired from all Farhan, KJo & Yash Raj movies. BTW, KJo is the producer of the movie. ‘A movie within the movie’ might allure some viewers for nostalgic reasons, but gets tiresome after few scenes. Directed by the debutant director Punit Malhotra (nephew of Manish Malhotra), IHLS lacks the fresh effervescence required for any love story to work. Cinematography is as usual like all KJo movies, rich and king size. Despite good music by Vishal Shekhar, its choreography and improper placement within the movie spoils its appeal. Songs keep on coming one after another, poor editing.

Performance wise, Sonam is growing better with every new movie of hers. Imran too suits the character of Casanova, but at times he hams with pouting. Regarding supporting cast; Samir Dattani, Samir Soni and Kavin Dave, Kavin as Imran’s buddy shines the most with meaty role.

On the whole, the movie do have appeal for Yippie’s & Yummies who loves candyfloss popcorn movies.
