Jaan–E–Maan (2006) Movie Review – the movie belongs to Salman !
Posted on 20. Oct, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Reviews
To be brutally honest, it takes time to absorb a new format of storytelling. Within first 30 minutes most of things happen including three songs;
Akshay Kumar floating in space in an astronaut’s uniform engaged in a romantic embrace with a blonde she-astronaut (not a dream sequence).
Filmfare awards with Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh, etc … while Salman holding trohpy.
Followed by Broadway inspired musical flashback, a punks-infested college campus, a qawaali featuring Snow White’s seven dwarfs to finally enter a swanky neighbourhood in New York City.
Too much is thrown in very less time, but firs ttitme director knows how to handle the chaos.

Synopsis
It’s not an exceptional story but the treatment rendered makes the whole ride an enjoyable one. Jaan-E-Mann primarily revolves around Suhaan Kapoor (Khan), a struggling actor with no real talent but truckloads of ambition. He is sweet but self-centred, charming but irresponsible, stylish but cocky. And even though it’s not mentioned in the film, I am sure in his spare, jobless time, he watches a lot of mushy fare. His inspiration, drawn from films like Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Hitch and Kal Ho Naa Ho, is evident in his tips to tutor ‘Champoo’/Agastya Rao (Akshay Kumar), a awkward NASA type, into a splitting image of himself to impress the elusive dream girl.
A flashback, ten years back in time, reveals Agastya and Suhaan share the same alma mater.
The former was a geek (by filmi definition) of the first order with thick glasses, curly bushy hair, braces and fondness for colourful, frilly shirts and suits. He pretty much resembles the high school version of Ross Gellar (from the hit television sitcom, Friends), sans the moustache, in his hideous avatar.
While Suhaan with his rock star appearance leading a heavy metal band enjoys the cool dude status. And as Kunder would have it, both have the hots for the same girl - Piya (Preity Zinta).
Whom does Piya love?
Why is Suhaan helping out Agastya?
The twist in the past and the turn in the future are best left unrevealed to enjoy the film better.
Despite fatigue wearing his face, arrogance and self-confidence sit well on Salman Khan. The part is tailor made for him. His changing accent has always been a subject of speculation. He plays on those lines here, putting his best yuppie twang forward, whether for doing an audition for Boo Boo diapers or begging an American filmmaker for a part on television.
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi established an easygoing camaraderie between Salman and Akshay Kumar. Jaan-E-Mann bonds them further. Speaking of Akshay, he may dub ‘Jaan-E-Mann an out-an-out-Salman film,’ but the actor is simply a knockout.
JAAN-E-MANN has its heart in the right place. As pointed out at the outset, it takes time to get used to Shirish’s style of narrating a story. The initial reels may give you the feeling that it’s all gloss, no soul and perhaps, the director has lost his marbles and experimented at the expense of an uncompromising producer [Sajid Nadiadwala], but JAAN-E-MANN catches you slowly, but firmly and doesn’t leave you till the end.

# The Making of DON – ONE HOUR SPECIAL (WATCH ONLINE)
What will happen next kind of gripping story is definitely one of the USP of the movie. New DON takes off as same as old DON. The begining part with Chunky Pandey and even before the credits appears, you get glued on the screen. The beginning half an hour and the (pre)climax are hands down the best moments in DON.
Yes, it is partially a remake of the original don, but not completely. So whoever thinks that they know what they’re in for think again, I’ll bet you don’t know what you’re in for. Atleast not till the intermission. The movie’s pace did slow down just a notch towards the end of the first hour and begining of second half, but then once the story actually takes off it’s just one hell of a roller-coaster ride. It’s not that there’s just a twist at the climax. There’s unexpected surprises even before that.Storyline is pretty simple as old DON, but its execution is what makes this movie different from the old one.
The movie is about drug mafia Don (Shahrukh Khan) who gets seriously injured in the police chase and police commissioner DeSilva (Boman Irani) replaces the original Don with his look alike Vijay to find out root of the gang. But commissioner DeSilva dies in an encounter. And Vijay lands up in the jail with no proof which proves that he is Vijay not Don but he fights back to prove that he is Vijay.
So is DON without its share of blemishes;
Not exactly.
Too much use of advanced graphics technology might sometimes confuse the viewers. The Inset shots and some irrelevant sequences in the movie confuses a common man. Even the climax of the movie would get mixedbag opinion. The climax does leave the possibility of next DON. Although its a fast paced thriller it does slow downs at some places with some irrelevant unwanted long scences. On the plus side Farhan has definitely tried not to stray away from the main plot, Even the light moments are carefully placed in between without hampering the flow of the story. There are surely light moments in the movie, which will make audience burst into laughter at times.
Bachpan mein Maa ki baat sun li hoti toh aaj yeh din dekhna nahi padta….
Aisa kya boli tumri maa…….
arre maa ki baat suni hi nahi to kaise bolein ki kya boli
Premiere of DON
DON without a doubt belongs to Shah Rukh Khan. If Krrish was for Hrithik, then DON is tailor made for Shah Rukh. Only he could have carried off so well the legendary Bachchan’s role. His shades of Duplicate (bad guy), Bazigaar & Darr are sometimes visibile in SRK’s character as DON and he carries off pretty well with arrogance and attitude. While on the initial portions of dehati Vijay character, SRK does seems mis-casted. SRK tries hard to bring in the essence of the charcter as played by Mr. Bachchan but falters. Even in the ‘Paan Banaraswala’ song he couldn’t infuse Mr. Bachchan’s magic. SRK as DON character totally outcasts his role as Vijay.
Kareena is there for one sassy number, just after 7 minutes 40 seconds she is no where to be seen on the screen. Isha Koppikar do have a significant role, where she plays one of the important character. It is an elaborated role devised from 30 seconds role from old DON. She has a late entry but do performs her role naturally.
Priyanka do look much more glamorous, classy and sexy in this movie but unfortunately her role is not better than her role in Krissh. She has even less screen space and hasn’t got any meaty dailouges.
But she does performs two-three very good action sequences though, well hats off to stuntmens !
Arjun definitely needs to work on his wooden expression, although he seemd to have grown in past few flims, but his expressionless face sometimes even confuse viewers about his intentions.
Music & Choreographywise the songs that stands out are ‘Mein Hoon DON’ & ‘Morya Re’. The choreography is above the par for those songs. While song like ‘Yeh mera Dil’ are just passable, eventhough it was a huge hit in old DON. The biggest disappointment was song ‘Kahike Pan Banaraswala’, the signature of old DON for the masses. The choreography was pathetic in comparision to old one, its even hard to believe this was done by legendary Saroj Khan. I think its time for her to bid goodbye to bollywood and just judge Nach Baliyee shows. Even the placement of the song is bit akward and irrelevant. But the backgound score with different tempo of ‘Don Track’ definitely adds thrill and pace to scences and done meticulously.
On whole DON is one roller coaster ride with slick and action. Its intresting story and starcast will definitely attract masses from India & Overseas, its just matter of time for this movie to be declared as yet another successful movie of this year.

Synopsis
A rock star (Kria) and a doctor (Suraj Rihan), who have no reason to meet in life, end up bumping into each other and fall in love. Shiney Ahuja’s Dr Rihan is a serious person while Sushmita Sen’s Kria is all about fun.
She has an adopted 12-year-old son (Julian Burkhardt), and two women constantly hovering around her — her business manager Kim Sharma and aunt Maushmi Chatterjee. The doctor knows that he is in love but cannot his WHAT? feelings. So the rockstar simply hugs him and says she is in love.
But, wait a minute! Dr Rihan is a married man.
Kria breaks down when she learns this. But later, she discovers that his wife is a vegetable ever since an accident five years ago.
Meanwhile, Kria’s son falls ill, and she discovers that he has a hole in heart. He needs a heart transplant and an urgent donor.
Will her son be saved? Will Dr Rihan and Kria come together? That forms the suspense of the film.
With not so noble storyline and weak script to back it makes this musical total washout. Even emotional scences appear fake and superficial at times. One of the major drawback of this so called musical is its music, which doesn’t uplift the moment in the movie. Its just loud and bad. In total, ZR is total let down to all Sush fans.

Synopsis
GAFLA is a story about ordinary people or rather an ordinary young man, Subodh [Vinod Sharawat], in ordinary circumstances. Subodh starts out like any middle class guy, with limited opportunities to survive and go ahead. Perhaps, he has a little bit more drive than the others, more energy and bigger dreams.
Subodh’s intentions are good and understandable in terms of ordinary ambitions. Subodh wants to make money, to be successful and enters the stock market. His brilliance makes him successful, but he is at the mercy of big players.
Faced with a choice of either following a secondary career, dominated by big players or becoming a big player himself, he opts for the latter. But, as an outsider, he shouldn’t have become the biggest player of all. He didn’t know where to stop. He didn’t pause to strengthen the base of political and institutional support before rising further. He is inexperienced.
So, when things go wrong, Subodh is crucified for doing the same fraud that everybody was doing.
The major problem with GAFLA, is the plotline unravels at such a lethargic pace, the impact of a couple of well executed sequences also evaporates into thin air. On the whole, GAFLA is a dry film with niche audience that has come virtually unannounced, with as good as zilch pre-release promotion. At the box-office, an also-ran!
Bhoot Unkle (2006) Movie Review – Indian Casper
Posted on 07. Oct, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Reviews
After Indian super-hero Krrish, yet another children movie hits the screen – bhoot Uncle, the friendly ghost or more appropriately, Indian Casper. Bhoot Uncle, is an adventurous story of a mishap and ill-treated orphan child, his encounter with friendly ghost and how the latter helps the child to get a good life later.
The good idea, to lure children goes kaput due to faulty script and its sloppy execution.
Jai Santoshi Maa (2006) Movie Review – lacks 70s touch !
Posted on 29. Sep, 2006 by musicNmovies.info in 2006, Reviews
Director Ahmed Siddiqui remains faithful to the original classic, which was a simple film, but had the power to mesmerize viewers of all ages. The only changes that you see in the new JAI SANTOSHI MAA are a rich canvas and of course, new set of actors. A commendable effort nonetheless!
JAI SANTOSHI MAA is about how Maa supports her devotees. It’s a story about how undying faith in Santoshi Maa can redeem one’s life. And how the divine intervention of the Goddess can change one’s life entirely.

JAI SANTOSHI MAA is the story of Mahima [Nushrat Bharucha], an ardent devotee of Santoshi Maa and Anuraag [Rakesh Bapat], a musician by heart. It’s a saga of all the hardships they face, with no complaints or regrets, and how they overcome these hardships with Santoshi Maa’a blessings.
Mahima’s father is a music teacher and her mother a devotee of Maa. She is married to Anuraag, a young man whose passion is music. Since this marriage is against the will of Anuraag’s family, only hardships come their way. Fed up with humiliation, Anuraag decides to try his luck elsewhere, where no one knows him. But Mahima decides to stay back and serve her in-laws. But what does she get in return? Misery, pain and distress from each and every member of the family.
With no shoulder to lean on, Mahima starts worshipping Santoshi Maa. She starts her ’solah shukrawar vrats’ and follows them religiously. She withstands everything that comes her way with a smile on her face and faith in her heart. Finally, Maa is pleased. The Goddess not only makes all her wishes come true, but also blesses her husband with all the success he ever wished for.
Inspite of strong performance and good story, the maker of Jai Santoshi Maa falters in the music department. The strongest point of 70s Jai Santoshi Maa was its devotional songs, which are till today chanted on every religious ocassions.
