Nishabd (2007) Movie Review - Love, Pedophilia or Porn for Dummies

March
It’s said beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, so its upon every moviegeor to dechiper Ram Gopal Verma’s latest outing - Nishabd. Ironically, Nishabd means wordless but the movie is verbose enough. Loosely inspired from Lolita, an unusual intimate relationship between a 60 year old man and a 18 year old girl is definitely going to be the talk of the town in coming days.
Bad or Good ?
Well, its totally upon ones mind, his/her understanding and interpretation.
In an attempt to create something different using powerhouse of talent, RGV, tries to tackle something which people don’t even talk in public. In the name of art, RGV this time pushed the envelope too far, using photography and poetry as props. He tries to present a movie, based on a moment. After watching this two hour caper, even you will be confused; what was RGV trying to highlight ?
Love, Pedophilia or was just RGV’s baby steps towards Porn ?
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Jiah Kahn, Revati

Vijay is a wildlife photographer living with his family in a hill station. His daughter’s friend, Jiah comes over to spend her holidays with the family. The lens man’s artistic vision is triggered off when he sees Jiah’s youthful activities and starts capturing them in his camera. But the rather harmless photo session take a unpredictable turn when Amitabh sees Jiah playing in water all drenched up. Instantly his feelings towards her changes. He begins to love her…
Don’t the above sounds like some dirty book story or part of some Barely Legal Porn?
Had he wanted to create an intricate love story, then he should not have highlighted Jaih with so much skimpy outfits. There is no justification whatsoever, why an old family man gets so much obsessed with his Daughter’s friend?
Are we trying to get into infidelity culture?
I hope public will accept the movie, as it’s part of our society we live in
The logic that Mr. Bachchan put forward is not at all convincing. If it happens in some part of society, that doesn’t need to be highlighted in such a glossy manner. If you want to bring into public knowledge, then bring it as a realistic cinema not with loads of glam shots.
Straying away from logical debate of right & wrong too, the movie doesn’t entertain at all. Its lethargic pace and flawed screenplay foils all the efforts Big B made to make Nishad at least sustainable. The movie completely crawls during the second half, after an indecent affair gets unveiled to Viajy’s daughter.
The movie might though carter to small segment of moviegoer, who tends to understand an one year old kids pencil scribbling as a modern art. RGV himself quotes in movie - ‘Some love stories are never meant to be understood’. Maybe once again, he made a movie for himself, not aam janta.
Page 3 Coverage of Nishabd
Performance wise Big B as always stays on top. His close-ups, and emoting through the eyes still continues. During penultimate reels, his haplessness and gazing into the sky expressions were pretty well captured. Newcomer Jaih Khan, looks promising and fits the bill of the role. With sexy bode and vulnerable facial expressions, she was a perfect discovery. Revati (playing Amitabh’s wife) once again surprises with her reserved talent. Shraddha Arya as Ritu (Amitabh’s daughter) and Aftab (as guest appearance) are just adequate.
One man’s art is another man’s porn. So, Nishabd is not everyone’s cup of tea, at least not mine.

Despite my aversion to the concept of a father falling in love with his daughter’s friend, the movie had an overall impact. Great performances (like that’s a surprise!), straight-forward dialogues and a bold storyline make the movie worth watching.
But does not necessarily warrant a trip to the theaters. It would have been better if they spent a little time on relationships other than the Amitabh Bachchan-Jiah Khan relationship. Also the overenthusiastic cameraman and murder-mystery style background music got exasperating after a while.
wa rubbish ,,, amitabh has gone mad ,,, he shudnt sign this movie,, he has a kind of status which he is goin to loose frm now on ,,,he is not more capable of 1 man show ,, u know wa i mean ,, so its better for him to do the rolls like he did in kank and KHNH ,sarkar, black,ek ajnabi many others ,,, well he is a gr8 actor no doubt ,, but now his time is over people dont want to see him like a corrector he is playing in this movie .. this iz really horrible ,rediculous.
You suck….wat u know about the films….!!!!! or movies…..smart ass
AB sathiya(60 ya) gaye hain muhahhaha
Well, as per my view, one has to accept the acting of an actor rather than involving them into the story. AB has performed his role brilliently. Even though he is 60, he is an envy, not only to people from his generation, but, to youngsters as well who find it difficult to beat him still.
Nishabd …well if this has been a hplywood movie done by Sean Connery and Lindsay Lohan , may be we would have been bowled over not only by their performance but for thier story too.
Nishabd …is an different perspective of an attraction that an older man has over a teenager.
Our Culture , Tradition and values have never accepted such relationships and codemns such an indulgence as a sin.
But, the Indian Society is evolving and movies like Water, Banaras, Babul, fire, black friday, Munna bhai have proved it .
This is just a director’s perspective to potray a different relationship.
Kudos to the great Amitabh Bacchan who dares to experiment & delivers yet again a memorable performance.
” Actors are alive till they experiment. Stereotyping kills thier urge to excel ” ..Tom Hanks
So, guys, just roll on to the theaters and watch it as a movie and not as a MESSAGE .
Hi Guys,
I did’nt watch the whole movie bcuz…….. no time….i just watch the last 15-20 min part but i must appreciate AB acting and i also saw the other viewers comments……and i want to give my own contribution.
I want to ask that people a question that…is nishabd is bad than KANK?….is KANK is acceptable by the indian culture?..secondly guys wot u think abt “Aik choti si love story” in which manisha finally been in love wit a teenage guy ….. is that movie is accepted by the indian culture?
i just want to say that movies and dramas r a true picture of life….and old woman could be in love with teenage boy…..and an old man could b in love with a teenage girl..its a reality and where as Nishabd is concerned i would say…..that its an outstanding movie..bcuz i beleive that a man could gets old bcuz its natural but..his heart always remains young……
I dunno y ppl always trying to apply the movie concept in real life and secondly it does’nt mean that culture allows r not bcuz its just a reality which could b happen in real life.if culture matters in movies than Mr KAran johar should b thrown out of Bollywood r even from india.
so Guys we should praise RGV bcuz he provided us somethin different for our entertainment.
Good Idea RGV keep it up?
Guys, i would like to see ur comments might b i m wrong wot u think?
hi…guys
i woulw only like to ans mr waseem,,,that ur comments are fully based on foolish thinking.plz changr ur thinking, but i think its not possible for u.
Guys,
I would like to ask Mr shankar that he have any words to say than go ahead…bcuz criticism is the most easy thing in this world….so Mr shankar if u have any comments than go on..i bet u.
well well…hey guys why argue….and debate…..keep it cool ….its just a movie…..
WAIST OF TIME
boring and really stupid movie!!!! what was big b thinkin when he signed 2 do thi film????
Its a movie u guys,so chill….I havent really watched it myself,n liking or not liking it, is all about your taste…..so there!!!By the way, unless ur a 60 yr old,i don’t really think anybody has the rite to say anythin bout a 60 yr old man fallin in love wit an 18 yr old….And bout AB, its not bout his image goin low or something, its all bout acting…He’s played a variety of rolls,n he wants to probably try different ones.So maybe the ones who’re talkin bout “his image” need to really broaden their minds or way of thinking…
than-you
