Which Indian movie do you think is the biggest (in any terms; starvalue, investment, fans hysteria) ?
Is it Sholay, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, DDLJ ?
Sorry to disappoint you all, but the movie is not from Bollywood faternity. It’s Sivaji - The Boss, the Tamil movie which released today (15th June 2007) and is creating biggest hysteria ever seen in Indian Film Industry.
Sivaji is the most expensive movie made till date in the history Indian Cinema - 80 Crores.
Directed by, Shanker (Hidustani fame) one of the biggest director in South, Sivaji - The Boss stars megastar Rajni Kanth. Rajni is a living Legend in South, worshipped even as the God. He is till date the most expensive actor in Indian Film faternity. Sources report that he charges ard. 20 Cr. for one movie. Which is greater than sum total renumeration of SRK + Amitabh + Aamir Khan + Saif Ali Khan + Salman Khan + Hrithik Roshan + Akshay Kumar.
Sivaji already has house full advance booking for next three weeks in the South, which is something people have never seen before. People have been living outside the theater since weeks ago just to watch this movie first day, first show. Tickets in black were being sold ard. Rs. 1500 - Rs. 2000 and surprisingly were sold out like hot cakes within first few minutes. It’s not just people within the country but people have flown down to India from Japan just to watch Rajni’s movie.
Various kinds of Pooja’s, festivals are being celebrated on the release of this movie. Rajni has huge fan following in overseas too - Hongkong, China, Japan, Malaysia (apart from US/UK). While this week’s bollywood release - Jhoom Barabaar Jhoom is already meeting cold reviews, Sivaji has already began 100 days celebration plans.
So what makes Rajni’s movies work ?
It’s all his style & action, which makes this 50 plus star still going. Though, Rajni could not make it big in Bollywood, he is today one of the biggest actor in Tamil Movie world. Till date (Sivaji was Rajni 100th Tamil Film), he has only one big flop - Baba. His last movie Chandramukhi was also blockbuster. It’s not just all larger than life characters that he plays in the movie, which makes him popular. Everybody in the industry respects him for his humble and down to earth nature.
Rajni never let success get into his head.
