Tashan (2008) Movie Review - Idiocracy has new name

April

Story, Screenplay, Dialogue and above all Director, what was HE (yes it’s the same person - Vijay Krishna Acharya - directoriual debut) thinking while preparing 80s khichdi in todays fast food generation. The story of small town Chandani Chowk girl, who sees her father being assassinated by one of his own henchman and years later takes her revenge. Believe Me, Tashan is total Carp with all style and no substance from YRF (They should have changed their production house WTF ! – after dud Ta Ra Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabaar Jhoom, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle )
Special Note: DONT waste at least your money in theater like I did. Now Showing @ www.musicnmovies.com
Imagine !
Hero and his team amidst surrounded by more than 40 goons, each whom aiming the hero’s team with AK 47’s. Suddenly, firing starts but Hero and his team’s scatters, despite hundreds of bullets hits their surroundings but none of the bullet touches Hero or his mates. Did you say HOW ?
Because, Hero was clever enough to do stunts like monkey, jumping from one roof to another. What about his mates?
Well, they were just lucky enough I had to say. Not just once, but thrice!
Well, this would have thrilled me when I was 8 years old and Mithun Da used to fly and kick those bad ass. My heart used to pound, when those goons used to take shot at him. How realistically he used to get alive from the midst of bullets. But those were 80s and I was just eight!
How can … think, all his audiences are still eight and its still 80s?
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor

Story of Tashan has strong resemblance with early Revenge movies like Zanjeer, Teezab; even its premise is pretty much the same. The only thing director did was filled this old wine in new bottle. Shed off few clothes of Bebo (Ya, its true Bebo is in Bikini, and My God!
She did lost lot of her fabs and looks gorgeous with cute ass !), add few corny dialogues, shoot in panoramic locales of Incredible India and serve it with DTS sound system - That seems to be directors Tashan!
The story begins with introduction of Jimmy (Saif) who is working in Call Center during daytime and teaching English in the noon. One fine rainy day he meets Pooja (Kareena) who takes him to Bhaiji (Anil Kapoor) to tutor the latter English. Bhaiji was an old time small goon of Benaras who assassinated his own boss and have now became big in Mumbai due to heavy extortion. Pooja worked for Bhaiji (despite she knew its was Bhaiji who killed her father) and was just waiting for a chance to take revenge. While tutoring Bhaiji English, Saif impress Pooja and both fall in love. But one day Bhaiji scolds and humiliates Pooja in front of Jimmy, which the latter couldn’t bear and makes plan to steal Bhaiji’s money to repay Pooja’s 1 crore debt and free Pooja from Bhaiji. The stealing goes fine, but instead of 2 crore they put their hands upon 25 crore. Nil is now scared and he goes to his call center to resign. There in call center, it gets revealed to Jimmy for the first time that Bhaiji was a notorious criminal and Bhaiji was using him to get contact number of big industrialists using his call center. When he returns from Call Center, Pooja had already gone, betraying him by taking all of looted money.
So, its pretty much old 90’s story. Old wine in a new bottle.
The biggest flaw in this movie was its mediocre storyline and it’s much bizarre execution. You never know where the story was moving; forward or backward. And its screenplay, only the time when Akshay made screen presence it was bit relief else it was completely mooooo point.
Secondly, the choreography and placement of the songs was haphazard, the actors used to burst into not at all interesting songs whenever they liked. Music wise, apart from ‘Chaliya’ song none of the song are even worth to be mentioned. Cinematography is the only thing left in Yash Raj Films that still has midas touch. It was bit of relief to see magnificent Indian locales on silver screen after a long time. As it was action movie, so special mention has to be made about action director - STOP WATCHING MITHUN DA’s 80s movies!
Hero doesn’t mean he can come alive from midst of 100s bullets and NOT all actors can do Krrish!
Am I getting too bitchy about the movie?
Well, you also get to see lot of Kareena Kapoor – Her complete anatomy, her flirting, body language and her Bikini Shots are more worthy than complete 3 hours long movie!
I was thrilled when Karan Johar told after private screening; “All movie makers must watch Tashan, You can learn a lot!”.
He was actually right; You can learn how to NOT make a movie like Tashan!

u know something it because of site like this that today bollywood movies mean nothing…
