What were your feelings after watching ‘RGV Ka Aag’ ?
Well, yet another well established director - Priyadarshan, falters big time in Mere Baap Pehle Aap. The maker of Hera-Pheri, Hulchul, Hungama and most recently Bhool Bhulaiya serves this time a stale fish. Despite novelty of hilarious idea of ‘Getting your 55 year old father married’ the movie falls flat due to lousy script and sleep walking performances from lead actors.
You grin at places in first half, but would almost fall asleep after that.
Comedy is a serious business. You need to hit right nodes at right time. Priyadarshan had shown that talent in his previous work but seems to have directed Mere Baap Pehle Aap day dreaming.

Promo/Teaser
The movie begins with screen full of scantly dressed nymphs entertaining drooling Om Puri, introducing his character. Then comes his friend Paresh Rawal, who has two sons one Akshaye Khanna and another Mohan Joshi who are handling both his business and him pretty well. At the age of 55, Om Puri wants his childhood friend Paresh to tie his knot once again. Then cat and mouse game begins. As old guys get busy in mischievous acts, son Akshaye Khanna reaches to rescue his dad Paresh. The whole sequence is repeated not just once but thrice. Instead of making you laugh it gets into your nerve at times.
Finally, they land upon a lady named Sobhana, who turns out to be actually Paresh’s first love. She also has a daughter, Genelia.
But, as title suggests - Mere Baap, Pehle Aap, Akshaye now needs to marry his father first to get his chance over Genelia.
Then starts emotional tv serial kind of boring drama. After interval, you forget to laugh and would almost fall asleep. The narrative is extended beyond ones tolerance. You start looking your watch when will this tv serial saga end. Finally the 2:40 Hrs movie ends!
‘Mere Baap Pehle Aap’ is mixture of different movies; from Saukeen to daily soaps. Its also inspired from Malayalam flick, Ishtam.
Had the director ever focused on main storyline and presented the story how it should be presented the movie would have been at least an average to above average fare. But the director seems to have lost all aesthetic values and so have its actors. You don’t get to see 10% of what Akshaye Khanna showed in Race. Even the veteran actor like Om Puri is hamming so hard you get irritated most of the times. Genelia though brings bit of freshness in this stale story.
Like the story, its music is also the major led down of the movie. None of the songs are even watch able (due to poor choreography and cinematography) on screen, forget about even downloading its mp3s. Cinematography was nothing special as usual Priyan style. Its bit confusing why Priyan wanted to focus more on South Indian locales (Kerela), was he trying to promote Incredible India campiagn ?
Mere Baap Pehle Aap is perfect example of imperfect combination of story, actors, music, cinematography and above all the director.

I aint surprised. smhw the promos made it clear what a disaster dis movie is gonna be. but smhw i failed to nitice dat dis was from the house of PRIYADARSHAN n boy..now i am surprised or what!
Even the maestro gets it wrong at times.
This is a horrible movie, no good songs, no good story, no good dialogues, no good language….All in all NO GOOD MOVIE. The actress does not know to talk well and Akshaye doesnt know how to talk to an elder…I mean if this movie is about family entertainment, I am sorry to say it is a total disappointment.
Very true mittal…a son screaming at his father throughout the movie gets on your nerves.
thanks
