It’s the end of an era for Hindi cinema as one of its doyens, filmmaker Baldev Raj Chopra, more popularly known as B R Chopra, passed away early today at his residence in Juhu, Mumbai. Born on 22nd April 1914 in the Ludhiana town of undivided Punjab, B R Chopra was one of India’s most respected film personalities. He is known for some of Hindi cinema’s timeless classics like NAYA DAUR, GUMRAAH, HUMRAAZ, DHUND and NIKAAH to name a few. Almost all his films had a strong social message to convey to the public in an entertaining way.

The elder brother of well known film personality, another pillar of the Indian film industry, Yash Chopra, and father of director Ravi Chopra, who himself is a director of eminence with films like MAZDOOR, BAGHBAAN and BABUL, the late B R Chopra will also be remembered for revolutionizing the world of Indian television through the epic series, MAHABHARAT. His passing away is an irreparable loss to the film industry though his legacy will be continued through his talented son.
