Flops - that weren’t meant to be (2006)

10

January

Well, continuing the tradition of 2005, this year too some of the big movies were not expected to hit the ground so hard, but unfortunately met the ill fate. As usual, producers and distributors were the people whose ships sank. For directors and actors it was just one another glass on rocks. Some of these movies listed, though might prestigious awards in days to come, but in the box office it failed miserably due to many reasons - script, star cast, competition and even Mumbai rain.
So without further ado, let’s unravel the worst top ten of this year.

Aryan (2006) - Underdog

January

Well by now, everyone knows the fate of the movie. But still I would stick with my first impression of the movie, when I watched neraly a month ago.

With competitors like KABUL EXPRESS and BHAGAM BHAG, ARYAN might not be able to stay in the ring for long, but guess what; this movie might throw a knockout punch. With Abhishek Kapoor as the fresh director and Sohail Khan as the actor, this film is bound to surprise the critics.

Baabul (2006) - Good intention, bad presentation

05

January

Hi, this is Surveen and this is my first bollywood review. I am honoured for given me chance to write review on such big platform like musicNmovies. Hoping for your feedback upon my review.

BaabulAfter such a powerful social drama like Baghban, Baabul is major let down. Apart from few intresting scenes the movie lacks strong and gripping narative. Inorder to have strong impact about any social issue, you need to present that issue with much sensitivity and sensibility. But sorry to say, Ravi Chopra sir has faltered this time by focusing more on stars than making effective characters out of those stars.

Baabul is neither a tearjerker nor a entertainer but just another passable social movie with big starcast.

Dhoom 2 (2006) Movie Review - Dhoom Again, literally

24

November

Dhoom was a huge success, it brought back action era of Akshay Kumar & Sunil Shetty with style & slick of Feroz Khan movies, though it was low in substance. Well, with much bigger canvas, huge starcast and eye candy babes and locales Dhoom II gives much more fun and still low in substance. This sequel takes Hrithik to much higher level than this year’s hit Krrish, as he takes this movie under his shoulder brilliantly.

Three Movies, One Review - Verdict Flop

17

November

It looks like lull before the storm, as next week (21st November 2006) Dhoom 2 is hitting the screens. No big film maker wanted to release anything this week, because of it. Still, three low-budget movies released for this weekend - Rehguzaar, Unns, Janani. In March 2006 too, I had a similar review, irrespective of starcast and budget - major flaw in all of these three movies released this week is SCRIPT. So here is condensed review of all three movies. Actually, didn’t want to waste three whole pages and your time.

Apna Sapna Money Money (2006) - Yet another Zero Logic comic caper

10

November

Last year, Sangeeth Sivan (director) said Kya Kool Hain Hum and earned more money than ace filmmakers under Ekta Kapoor’s production. This time Sivan is saying ‘Apna Sapana Money Money’ hoping to earn much more under Mr. Subash Ghai’s production. As the title itself suggests, ASMM is zero logic - David Dhawan style comedy, not made for serious movie critics. If you want to enjoy this movie then leave your thinking caps at home.

Vivah (2006) Movie Review - Beyond Orthodox

10

November

2 Weeks, 2 big movies - Umrao Jaan (J.P Dutta) & Vivah (Sooraj Barjatya). Apart from being made by legedary directors, both movies share one common thing - both of them are completely disappointing. While the former could have excuse for being remake of classic cult movie, but Vivah, how could Sooraji even think that people would accept Amrita as Madhuri & Shahid as Salman with same old story. Yes the movie highlights forgotten culture and moral values, but its content and presentation is nowhere near to his past masterpiece.

Umrao Jaan (2006) Movie Review *Xclusive*

November

Umrao Jaan

Not J P Dutta’s cup of tea.
Thats what I felt after watching for not more than first 45 minutes of the movie. Sorry, Dutta sir, but you have faltered big time, even bigger than your last endevour L.O.C. - Kargil. Although its remake season (Devdas, DON, Sholay,…) but the choice of the story and much more its execution should have been adapted to present context. Unfortunately, Umrao Jaan lacks the both.
