Bollywood 2007 Report Card

23

January

Despite having dreadful start after swinging 2006, 2007 ended in pretty good note. Within last two months there were more than 5 hits, two of them being blockbuster, while others super hit. Well, those were November & December, but 2007 did have sluggish start. With miserable fate of highly anticipated Salaam-E-Ishq at box-office, all big banners were afraid to release their movies in the first quarter.

Star Screen Awards Nominations

07

January

As usual Star TV & Screen Awards delcared this years nominations, and without a doubt once again we can clearly see the baisness. You will too notice once you look into the nominations. One of the biggest disappointment was missing of two most successful actors of this year from the nomination list - Salman Khan (Partner) & Akshay Kumar (Namaste London, Hey Babby, Bhool Bhulaiya, Welcome). Another only three actress - Aish, Bebo & Tabu in Actress list, hello where are - Vidya Balan (Bhool Bhulaiya), Lara (Partner) ?

Well without further ado, here is the list with my guesses who would win the awards. Dont forget to post your views and WHO WILL WIN for the BEST ACTOR/ACTRESS/FILM/DIRECTOR..

Welcome (2007) Movie Review - Seriously NOT WELCOMED!

22

December

How lousy could your Christmas weekend begin ?
Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Nana Paterkar, Anil Kapoor, Mallika & even Feroz Khan couldn’t save the most stupid movie from Firoz Nadiadwala. A story of a common man entangled in a marriage proposal from underworld don’s sister, sounds funny on the paper. But, due to mediocre screenplay and inept direction the movie falls flat on the silver screen. Welcome had full potential to bring the house down this Christmas, but LAUGHTER is not welcomed…

Aaja Nachle (2007) Movie Review - Theater Se Bhag Le …

30

November

After hit Dil To Pagal Hai in 90s, Yash Raj Flims yet betting upon another musical with Madhuri Dixit in her comeback movie - Aaja Nachle, but after Jhoom Barabar Jhoom & Laaga Chunari Mein Daag this one doesn’t strike the chord. Apart from Madhuri (and her dances) and the climax musical drama, the movie had nothing interesting to hold the audience for two and half hours.

Om Shanti Om (2007) Movie Review - Let the Festival begin…

09

November

First day first show, OMG !

The crowd, the hysteria and the cheers !!
2007 Diwali will be definitely remembered for very long time, courtesy - Om Shanti Om. It was fireworks full of stars on the screen and above all the shining moon - Shah Rukh Khan. Let’s clear few things first; Om Shanti Om is good combination all previous re-incarnation blockbusters like - Karz, Mehbooba, Karan Arjun and specially Madhumati regarding the climax. It has everything to make complete Bollywood entertainer - Stars, Music, Melodrama and mainly script. Undoubtedly, Om Shanti Om will be one of the blockbusters of the year, if not the biggest and credits - Shah Rukh Khan. Yes, I am the same reviewer who bashed Chak De India.

Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) - Movie Review: Juile meets Indian sisterhood TV serials

12

October

After comendable job with Parinita, Pardeep Sarkar, tries to repeat similar saga but fails to hit the chord. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is complete rehash of raunchy Juile along with run-of-the-mill sisterhood tv serials like Kasam Se, Beetiyan, Paraya Dhan…. Though Pradeep Sarkar have successfully captured the essence of Benaras and Ganga but doesn’t have any signifiiance to the ‘been there done that’ storyline.

In short Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is old wine in a new bottle.

RGV ki Aag (2007) Movie Review - Defect piece from RGV Factory

31

August

You can’t believe that it’s the same person who made - Rangeela, Satya, Kaun, Company with such raw perfection. The rehash of Ramesh Shippy’s Sholay, titled Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag is nowhere near the orginal, had the movie been only 10% as intresting as the original then theater wouldn’t have been half empty even before the climax on the first day first show.

In short, RGV falters big time and as usual its us who lose of time and money !

Chak De, India (2007) Movie Review - Better than Rang De? are you kidding !

12

August

The anxiety couldn’t get higher, after all it was Shah Rukh Khan’s movie after long time. The Director claimed, Chak De was far superior to Rang De before its premiere. Well, we do appreciate Yash Raj Flims for trying something different from regular romantic tales BUT what the hell were the script writers thinking while making this movie ?

First half, they teach you how to play hockey in team spirit and second half is world cup hockey tournament showing almost all games that India plays starting from the league match.

Better than RDB !
Are you kidding?
