Jaan–E–Maan (2006) *HQ - UPDATED*

Jaan-E-Maan First time director Shirish Kunder’s imagination runs at a breakneck speed as he goes all out with every single wild idea that pops in his head, but for the good. The chaotic setup never gets out of control in this modern day romatic fairy tale - Jaan-E-Maan. Inspite of its dull promotion (compared to DON), the movie lives above the expectation. Its much more than regular love traingle that viewers have witnessed in Sangam, Saajan or more recently KHNH.

High Quality DVD Rip

Let me start off by saying that Jaan-e-mann is NOTHING pathbreaking or spectacular. It’s a typical story, with a predictable ending…except it’s been done in a different style. Shirish Kunder has shown the story Broadway-style….which was interesting. I give him points for creativity. But that’s about it. The first half was pretty boring and I barely laughed, only when Akshay was on-screen. Songs are beautiful though (especially the picturisation).

The second half is much better in my opinion, but it is VERY predictable. Either way the second half was much more enjoyable and entertaining. The performances were not bad. Salman annoyed me in the first half, but did well in the second half. Akshay was good throughout, i love his laugh! Preity was good too but it’s not like her role required any sort of brilliance.
The songs are a mixed bag…Ajnabi Shehar, Sau Dard, Humko Maloom are great and look FANTAAAAASTIC on screen…Kubool Kar Le and Udh Jaana are just annoying.

But finally a film works because of just how much the story grips you and how much you care for the characters - and in that aspect, Jaan-e-mann works somewhat. The first half is light hearted - Salman gets in all the laughs and Akshay is good support. Preity’s job description is to look pretty and she does that exceedingly well! The second half - drags and it is no fun when Kunder does a Johar - suddenly you have Preity’s extended family doing a Joharesque song and dance routine all in the attempt to get her to marry Akshay! But all in all, all’s well that ends well - and Jaan-e-man is a nice timepass entertainer - go watch it with that mindset - you may end up enjoying it!

Overall, Jaanemann was a time pass movie for me. Entertaining, but nothing more.
