WrestleMania 13, subtitled “Heat”, was the thirteenth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event from the World Wrestling Federation. The event was held on March 23, 1997, with an attendance of 18,197 in the Rosemont Horizon in the Chicago suberb of Rosemont, Illinois. Stone Cold Steve Austin stole the show this night as he withstood a brutal beating by the “Hit Man” and came back for more. The match started off with Bret being cheered and Austin being booed, but their roles were reversed by the end of the match.
This match was a brutally violent and featured Austin receive a major gusher on his head. When Bret had Austin trapped in his sharpshooter, Austin refused to quit. He eventually went unconscious due to the blood loss. Bret was unhappy that he didn’t get to hear Austin quit and tried to continue the battle. Austin, refused to be helped to the back by any officials.
Finishing Sequence: Austin is choking Hart with an extension cable, but Hart nails him over the head with the ring bell of DOOM! Austin falls backwards & Hart puts him into the Sharpshooter. Austin breaks free, but Hart reapplies the move again & Austin’s face is covered in BLOOD!
Austin passes out from the pain & Ken Shamrock stops the match. Still Bret then goes to beat on Austin some more, but Shamrock takes him down to a MONSTER POP! Bret walks away with the crowd booing him out of the building. Austin gets up & Stunners the ref. He leaves to the chant of AUSTIN! AUSTIN! AUSTIN!
Steve Austin and Bret Hart entered WrestleMania 13 (1997) as in-ring rivals. Almost a decade later in the same city, at the 2006 WWE Hall Of Fame Induction ceremony, Steve Austin inducted Bret Hart into the Hall of Fame.
