It’s not blasphemous to be inspired by a Hollywood film [JUST LIKE HEAVEN; starring Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo], but writer Suresh Nair and director Vivek Agrawal should’ve ensured that the desi adaptation appeals to Indian sensibilities and is captivating enough from start to end. Sure, I SEE YOU has its share of interesting moments. It has the intensity that romance requires, and the frivolousness that makes you laugh.

Vivah is a simple charm of the boy-meets-girl story is laced with untold moments of absolute enchantment. In his typical fashion, Barjatya weaves together special moments between the couple as they move in and out of the domestic flock. Thankfully the joint family is kept at a far more manageable level here than in his earlier movies. There are no irksome broods of uncles and aunts who fill up screen space and the couple in love gets ample breathing space to let their mutual feelings grow in leisurely grace.

Sometimes, a ’small-budget’ film has more to offer than the ‘big-budget’ extravaganzas. ‘Deadline-Sirf 24 Ghante’ is an absorbing film that keeps you interested throughout. What makes it even more watchable is its starcast. Irrfan’s bordering-on-psychotic kidnapper is immensely focused and ruthless to the core. His motive justifies his actions too. The deadpan expressions and dripping-with-cynicism humour evokes admiration-n-applause.

While it’s not a startlingly original film at any level, Pyaar Ke Side Effects manages to essentially pull off the loser-talks-to-camera movie, a concept done to death in American cinema but very rarely seen on our shores. It tackles an urban relationship — the love story between two consenting adults who are ready for a relationship, not marriage. PYAAR KE SIDE/EFFECTS mirrors certain truths that several working people in a metropolis face. And it’s this facet that forms the crux of the story.

AAP KI KHATIR rests on a thin plot. Fine, that can be overlooked. But the director should camouflage the deficiency with an arresting screenplay. The sequence of events should have the power to keep you focused to the screen for the next two hours. Dharmesh establishes the plot well. The ‘deal’ between Priyanka and Akshaye brings a smile on your face and keeps you in good spirits all through the first half.
